Resident named student marshal

Davis James Evans will be the student marshal for the engineering science baccalaureate degree program at the Penn State College of Engineering spring commencement ceremony on May 8.

Evans will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering science with a minor in physics.

He has chosen Corina Drapaca, associate professor of engineering science and mechanics, to be his faculty escort.

College of Engineering student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.

A Schreyer Scholar, Evans completed an undergraduate honors thesis titled "Integrative Mathematical Models of Intracranial Pressure Dynamics."

He received the Mirna Urquidi-Macdonald and Digby D. Macdonald Student Award and the Dr. Edward Frymoyer Honors Scholarship, both in engineering science and mechanics.

He holds membership in the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society (webmaster, 2014).

Evans' extracurricular activities included Penn State Club Racquetball (2014-15), the Penn State Chess Club (2011-15) and Penn State Club Powerlifting (2011-13).

He competed in the Eastern Collegiate Racquetball Conference Regionals and the 2013 Pittsburgh Open Chess Tournament.

Evans worked as an intern for three semesters for LORD Corp., Erie, where he aided with the analysis, design, and development of helicopter rotor components.

He also interned for KCF Technologies, State College, where he monitored and analyzed mechanical vibration signals.

A 2011 graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School, he is the son of Marjorie and David Evans of New Tripoli.

Following graduation, Evans will pursue a graduate degree in engineering science and mechanics at Penn State.

on dean's list

Daniel Miller of Schnecksville was named to the 2014-15 fall dean's list at Rochester Institute of Technology, Kate Gleason College of Engineering.

Students at RIT must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.4 or higher to earn dean's list honors.

Miller, the son of Jim and Becky Miller, is a fifth-year, dual degree senior graduate student at RIT, majoring in mechanical engineering, with a minor in structural design, and a concentration in communications.

He will graduate cum laude in December with both a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanic engineering and a Master's of Engineering degree.

Miller is a member of the RIT National Society of Leadership and Success and recently became a nominee for inclusion into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society.

Alpha Sigma Lambda was founded in 1964 to honor students who represent the guiding principles of ASL: Activities, Scholarship and Leadership.

A member of the RIT Men's Division I ACHA Ice Hockey team, serving as co-president and past-vice president since 2012, Miller recently received the ACHA Academic All-American Honors Award for the 2014-15 season of the NECHL.

He serves as the club's primary representative to the RIT Competitive Sports Club Federation.

Under his leadership, the club was recently honored by being selected as the best overall club at RIT for the 2014-15 school year.

Miller is also the founder of the RIT Bubble Hockey League and a co-founder of the RIT Theme Park Enthusiasts Club.

Rochester Institute of Technology is internationally recognized for academic leadership in engineering.

RIT"s cooperative-educational program is one of the oldest and largest in the nation.

Miller has been afforded the opportunity to benefit from this program, earning cooperative-educational experiences with companies such as Moog, Inc. for product and manufacturing engineering in its Space and Defense Group, and Product Development at Fisher Price Inc.

Both company's headquarters are in East Aurora, N.Y.

A member of the American Society of Engineers and The American Coaster Enthusiasts of Eastern, Miller is a 2010 graduate of Parkland High School.
