On April 26, 2006, former Press writer Jean Stoneback writes this about the bluebells at Lock Ridge Furnace, Alburtis. "I have been enjoying the bluebell field for 85 years and my father before me, who lived to be 95, used to pick these flowers as a young child down at Lock Ridge Furnace. This field of beauty is located next to the Swabia Creek, near the foreman's quaint stone house. The children from school used to pick bouquets for their teachers, which brightened up the school rooms. Folks came from far and wide to see these lovely flowers in bloom. They will be fading soon and then we will not see them until next year. It is amazing to me this plantation of wild flowers blooms so profusely. They seem to enjoy the soil conditions and natural location for living conditions." Thanks to Stoneback's son Scott, we see the bluebells are still blooming for all to enjoy.
