Mathew Fainor, of Salisbury Township, recently was recognized as among winners of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards.

Now in its fourth year, the award, given in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10, recognizes students from high schools throughout the Philadelphia region for making a difference in their communities or schools.

Fainor, who is among 134 honorees this year, organized a silent auction gala at the Baum School of Art. All proceeds from the auction went to Linny's Kids, a scholarship providing money to art education students.

The honorees attended a celebratory breakfast at the National Constitution Center recently and will participate in a leadership conference at Widener University in the fall.

Winners will receive a scholarship of $20,000 over four years should they enroll at Widener University for undergraduate studies.
