HORNET HAPPENINGS Congratulations to FBLA members and German students

April proved to be a busy month for many Emmaus High School students.

Future Business Leaders of America members travelled to Hershey April 13 and spent three days at the statewide leadership conference. Ten Emmaus students took top 10 places at the conference, attended by 4,600 students from across Pennsylvania.

EHS students studying German participated in German Day April 16 and 36 Emmaus students won first place overall, beating 19 other schools.

Beginning April 13, the high school celebrated Unity Week, organized by EHS's No Place for Hate club and Gay-Straight Alliance. The week featured a smoothie fundraiser, held during all lunches, as well as the "Day of Silence," where students can vow to not speak for an entire day. On April 17, several students remained silent to spread awareness for acceptance and unity.

EHS Health and Wellness/Fitness club hosted a dodgeball tournament April 16, which featured 18 teams, music and food. Juniors Collin Riegal and Ryan Cox led their team, Captain Cox and the Bald Riegals, to victory in this year's tournament.

With May fast approaching, the activities continue.

On April 30, the guidance office will host the annual college fair in the main and auxiliary gyms. Students and their parents are invited 6 to 8 p.m. to visit with approximately 130 post-secondary institutions including, but not limited to, two- and four-year colleges, trade and technical schools and military representatives. This year, 20 percent of the schools are new to the fair, making it a very worthwhile event

Tickets for senior and junior proms can be bought during lunches.

The Senior Ball will be held 5 to 10 p.m. May 2 at the Palace Center in Allentown.

The Junior Prom will be held 7 to 10 p.m. May 9 at the Econo Lodge and Conference Center in Allentown.

Advanced Placement exams will begin May 4 through 12. On May 13, Keystone testing begins.

Emmaus' Habitat for Humanity will hold a flapjack fundraiser at the Applebee's restaurant in Trexlertown 8 to 10 a.m. April 25. There is a cost for tickets and profits will go to the club to help build homes for those in need around the Lehigh Valley.

Lastly, the Emmaus High School orchestra will present a spring concert April 28.
