The Groundhog Lodge #13 on the Indian Creek, Emmaus, held its 53rd annual banquet recently at the East Greenville Fire Company. The lodge's mission is to promote the preservation of the Pennsylvania German dialect and culture. The Happy Dutchmen provided music and led the singing of PA German songs, the Miller Brothers performed a skit in the dialect and Donald Peters delivered the PA German speech. Each of the 135 in attendance received a packet of groundhog cutout cookies baked by Phyllis Ritter. ABOVE: Barry Miller, president, and Marvin Schantz, board member, present a program and check in the amount of $240 to Krista Pegnetter, library director, Emmaus Public Library. The check represents penalty money collected for members speaking English.
