LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

EHS pounds Liberty

The Emmaus boys lacrosse team had a rough weekend in Pittsburgh two weeks ago. The Green Hornets lost two games by close scores, 11-10 to Mount Lebanon and 13-8 to North Allegheny.

They were tough losses to swallow after the long trip across the state, and a convincing win is just what they needed most.

Emmaus got that last Wednesday night in a 19-2 throttling of Liberty at Memorial Field at Emmaus High School.

"It felt really good to get out there and play well for an entire 48 minutes," said head coach Scott Ketcham. "Both the offense and defense had outstanding efforts and our face-off men, Tyler Corpora and Tom Wagner, did a fantastic job versus one of the best in the area in Tyler Seddon. I truly feel that our brutal out-of-conference schedule really gets us playing at a faster level of play and that will hopefully pay off at the end of the year."

It didn't take long for Emmaus to climb on top. And after the first goal, more just kept coming in a heap. The Hornets scored 12 goals in the first two quarters and did not allow one as they led comfortably 12-0 at halftime.

Sophomore Jared Baker had a huge game offensively and led the team in scoring with four goals. Six different Emmaus players reached scored goals, led by Baker.

Juniors Ed Kelly and Colin Mason each had three, and Hunter Krauss, Pat Camilli, and Konnor Haldeman each added two goals apiece in the win.

"We have been very balanced on offense the entire season," said Ketcham. "Our unselfish play is what we've always wanted here at Emmaus and this game tonight was a great example."

Liberty scored one goal in each of the final two quarters from Seddon and Mike Morales, but the Hurricanes never could threaten the strong Emmaus defense, led by a senior-laden defense that includes Andy Davidson, Claude Bradshaw, Troy Brennan and goal tender Matt Horton.

"We have a very good defense and goalie," said Ketcham. "It's very hard for teams with one or two quality players to handle our cover defenders."

Emmaus defeated Central Catholic in its next game two days later for another East Penn Conference victory. The Green Hornets face Nazareth today.
