Lynn Township residents want to call off proposed weddings

Lynn Township's April 9 supervisors' meeting opened with a discussion concerning a zoning appeal granted for a property at 7939 Springhouse Road.

Matthew and Cheri Leinberger, 7936 Sawmill Road, made a plea to the board to intervene and oppose the decision of the zoning hearing board regarding a special exception to operate a commercial recreation area, for weddings with up to 100 guests, with access to Springhouse Road.

The Leinbergers contend the proposal does not meet ordinance specification relating to road access.

Other concerns included noise, traffic and quality of life.

They stated a traffic study should be required because of the rural roads and some problem intersections in the area.

Supervisors' Chairman Justin Smith said the board could not comment as supervisors had not received a copy of the decision.

Resident Ann Schnurr said a similar request, proposed several years ago along Leaser Road, was denied.

Smith reiterated the board would not be able to do anything until members see the final decision.

In other matters, New Tripoli Fire Chief Peter Christ gave the report for the fire company.

He said Bill Beitler has completed the survey of the property.

Advanced Rapid Intervention Team and Basic Vehicle Rescue classes are scheduled for the volunteer firefighters to attend.

Chief Clark Mantz gave the report for Lynnport Fire Company, saying the second annual David Falk Sr. Healthy Lungs spaghetti dinner will be April 18 in the social hall.

Proceeds from the all-you-can-eat dinner will go to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the American Lung Association.

Roadmaster Bruce Raber gave his road report. It was a busy month with pothole filling, fixing signs, tree trimming, street sweeping , boom mowing and fixing the dirt roads comprising much of the time.

In May, the crew will finish sweeping and fixing potholes.

He notified the board there was a request to vacate Frey Road. Supervisors will study this proposal further.

A letter from PennDOT concerning the Behler Road situation was brought to the board's attention.

The letter, Steve Feinour noted, did not reflect the agreement reached on site when they met with PennDOT officials.

A public hearing and subsequent approval for inclusion of 17 acres at 7897 Springhouse Road into the Ag Security District.

Bids were received and approved for the stone and bituminous material which will be used in the upcoming road maintenance season.

Low bidders were Lehigh Asphalt, who was awarded the bids for No. 67 and No. 57 stone, along with the bids for anti-skid, Superpave, cold patch and sand, and Eastern Industries, who received the bids for No. 2A stone, No. 8 stone, No. 1 stone, No. 10 stone and 2RC.

A-1 traffic control was the low bidder for line painting of the township roads. No bids were received for diesel fuel.

The park report noted money spent on Ontelaunee Park comes from donations and recreation fees.

The Frisbee golf course has been set up and on April 26, volunteers will meet to clean up the walking paths.

Under ambulance corps news, the New Tripoli Fire Company will not include space for the ambulance in its construction project.

Albany Township is interested in the progress being made.

Albany has a quick response team responding to calls and aiding victims until the ambulance arrives.

If Albany is to be used in the equation, the best site would be either the township building or the fire company building in Lynnville.

The board is considering its options.
