Emmaus high jumper Scott Schlegel recently took first place at the New Balance Indoor Track and Field Championships in New York City.

The EHS senior competed against 41 of the best high school jumpers in the nation and came out on top with a lead up 6-7 1/2.

Schlegel, who broke a 28-year old Emmaus record in high jump last season, has only been competing in the sport since his sophomore year. before joining the track team he competed on Emmaus' football and basketball teams. By his junior season he was the District 11 and Lehigh Valley Conference champion in high jump.

He earned the team MVP award last season and qualified for the PIAA Championships. He went on to compete in the New Balance Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina where he finished fourth national.
