New stealth patrol car adds to police tools

A new "stealth" cruiser has been recently added to the Salisbury Police Department's traffic safety tool kit to help make the community's streets and roads safer for township residents and those passing through Salisbury Township.

The white Dodge Charger is powered by a 5.7 liter eight-cylinder Hemi engine providing responsive acceleration and speed for police traffic intercepts.

It was added recently to the black "stealth" patrol cruiser operated by Salisbury Police Department traffic safety officer Bryan Losagio. The cruiser is distinct from traditionally striped and marked police cruisers in that it features "shadow" markings identifying it as a police vehicle. The markings are highly reflective and stand out in night-time traffic, but is less obstusive during daylight hours..

The traditional blue and red blinking police cruiser lights are contained in the front windshield and back-seat window and in the grill of the cruiser.

Salisbury Police Chief Allen Stiles said the "stealth" features of the cruiser add another dimension to police department traffic safety efforts.

"It's sometime too easy for an aggressive driver to back down his or her speed, or otherwise ease into traffic safety compliance when they spot a marked cruiser," Stiles said. "With these less-conspicuous cruisers that do not have the distinctive light bar and markings, we can add a degree of uncertainty to police presence for those who only obey traffic laws when they know they are being watched. Our hope is that this adds to the safety of motorists and pedestrians in our community."
