Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners
The Penn Sheet Metal building expansion was approved at the April 2 meeting of the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners.
The property is located at 421 Schantz Road.
The plan was approved with adequate parking for employees and proper lighting and also includes some tree planting. It was recommended to not encourage biking as the road is not conducive to bike traffic.
The Verizon cell tower for Kratzer Farm was discussed. There are two types of cell towers recommended for this area. One looks like a tree and the other is a single pole with perpendicular pieces on top. Pictures of the suggested towers can be found on the township website under the board of commissioner minutes. It is suggested to use the plain pole as it is less noticeable. The tree type is very obvious.
Jennifer Tyma, president of the library board, talked about the new library logo. There is a survey of the library on the website. This will be used to update library procedures.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has notified township officials resurfacing of the bypass will be completed by April 12. The work will be completed during the night.
Brian Joyce, esquire, sent a notification of retirement. He has given Lower Macungie Township 30 years of service.
Sarajane Williams, president of the historical society, sent a letter of thanks for the use of the Schantz Barn and the community center for the barn expo.
A resident who lives across from Wild Cherry Park has raised safety concerns. He has small children and is concerned about the road when people are parked for a game. There is no streetlight and no signs to slow down because of children around. The visibility is difficult also when cars are parked. The township will look into this.
The Hamilton Crossings project has had the plan recorded making way for construction.
There is a property on Hamilton Boulevard being gifted from the estate of Andrew Yastichak. The property will be checked out by the township engineer for possible problems with water and other potential issues. The property will then be turned over to planning and zoning.
Commissioner Ron Beitler checked into the deer problem at a property on Orchard Road. Lehigh County Authority is not assisting with the problem.
A conceptual drawing of Quarry Park was presented. The plan calls for $4.9 million– more than originally proposed. The park can be done in phases to allow for the additional funds.
There is the possibility of a grant to be used for upgrading the land in front of the Wescosville Recreation Center.
There was a complaint about trash pick-up and there have been several occasions trash pick-up has not happened. This will be investigated.
Five houses torn down around Spring Creek Road. will remain open space.
There was a meeting about the littering of newspapers. The Merchandiser and Morning Call attended this meeting and are working on a satisfactory improvement.
There will be a study conducted on the possibility of expansion of the community center.
A shredding event will be held April 25.
