Hazardous materials training for township firefighters

PRESS PHOTO BY JIM MARSH

John Wargo, head of public safety operations at Lehigh Valley Health Network, gives Western Salisbury Fire Department firefighters an overview of the mobile mass decontamination facility that could be transported from the Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest campus, to the scene of a hazardous materials incident for decontamination of victims and first responders. Members of the Lehigh County Special Operations group also attended the session to familiarize firefighters with the equipment and expertise of the special ops personnel who could respond to a hazardous materials incident or a technical rescue scene. The training held March 30 was the second of a two-session hazardous materials training refresher program the fire department provides annually for its first responders in conjunction with Bucks County Community College fire safety trainers.
