Berks County Jail, 1287 County Welfare Road, Bern Township, was placed on lockdown as a precaution 1 p.m. on March 23 after a threatening phone call was received.
According to Trooper David Beohm, public information officer with Troop L Reading, shortly after the first phone call was received, a second call was received indicating there was a bomb on the property.
Beohm said state police, Reading, were notified and members of the Criminal Investigation Unit responded to investigate.
Sheriff's Departments from Berks, York and Chester counties provided K-9 units to check the property.
The police bomb squad from the city of Reading provided additional detection resources.
The area was determined to be secure at approximately 4:45 p.m.
