SALISBURY RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Recreation Director Genny Baillie reported at the March 16 recreation advisory committee meeting the township Easter egg hunt is scheduled 10 a.m. March 28 at Lindberg Park. The hunt is for township children ages three to 10. Registration forms are available at the township municipal building. Baillie said the hunt will go on rain or shine but should the ground be too wet or covered with snow, the committee will announce the cancellation March 27 based on field conditions and weather.

Committee members could not discuss the status of the township parks because most are still covered with snow.

Baillie also announced the deadline for summer playground counselor applications was March 18. Baillie will finish interviewing the candidates and hire soon so she can get the required clearances. Baillie does not have an official start day for the playground program; she is waiting until the last day of school is announced.

Township Manager Randy Soriano provided a report on Phase I of the Lindberg Park Master Plan. The bids were opened for the perimeter trail at Lindberg Park and the bid was awarded to Miller Bros. Construction, Inc. of Schuylkill Haven. Soriano hoped the trail would be installed before June.

Soriano also provided an update on Phase II and III.

Regarding the Laubach Park Master Site Plan, Keystone Engineering is surveying the park. The township will look to form a committee of stakeholders including residents, Salisbury Youth Association, St. Luke's University Health Network, school district personnel and recreation advisory committee members. Soriano said he will schedule meetings to accommodate schedules.

Baillie asked Soriano about the signs around Lindberg Park posting the 25 mph speed limit. Soriano said an ordinance needs to be on the books before the signs can be ordered.

The recreation advisory committee is planning a community event for the fall of 2016. They are hoping to partner with the environmental advisory committee for a joint event. Members said they would like to come up with a plan, create a budget and present to the commissioners for their approval.

In other business, member Frank Adamcik said he believes residents would be interested in monthly bingo games. They will continue the discussion at the next meeting.

The next regular meeting is 7:30 p.m. May 18 at the muncipal building.
