Prom gowns ready for pickup March 28

The YWCA of Bethlehem hosts its eighth annual Prom Dress Day March 28 at the State Theatre, 453 Northampton St., Easton. The event runs 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

High school juniors and seniors may attend accompanied by one female guest and must provide a student ID. There is a small admission fee refundable if participants are unable to find a dress to their liking.

Students will be able to select a gown from among several hundred in inventory, according to event chair Michael Anderson, who said simple alterations are also offered. Organizers expect over 200 area students to attend and noted in 2014, 189 prom dresses were given out.

Organizers noted a number of organizations collaborated with the YWCA this year to provide dresses, mannequins, hangers and garment bags. The Girl Scouts, Perfect Fit, the Olympus marketing services group, Talbot's and ZTA Sorority at Moravian College all contributed supplies or held prom dress drives.

In addition, monetary donations were received from Perfect Smile Dentistry and Zachary Zawarski, Esquire. Anyone wishing to provide future support may do so by calling the YWCA at 610-867-4669, ext. 104.

Director of empowerment and development Catharine Lee Kessack summed up the YMCA's efforts calling Prom Dress Day "definitely a unique event in this area."
