Student of the Week
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I'm a senior at Emmaus High School.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: It's hard for me to pick a favorite subject because I love learning about American history, but I was fascinated by all I learned about the workings of the human body in my anatomy and physiology class. I love to read and write as well.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: I don't have a lot but I'm proud I received Principal's Honor Roll and/or Honor Roll every marking period and am a member of National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. I've been a dancer for most of my life and won the gold in my group dance competitions several times.
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: During my four years of high school, I involved myself in numerous organizations and clubs, both academic and social. In the Student Government Association, I served as an officer for three years and junior chairman for one year. I have also been a member of the Emmaus High School dance team, Key Club, Hornet Ambassadors, Hiking Club, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Buzz magazine, an online fashion magazine started by one of my best friends. I also have taken dance classes at That's Dancín' for 15 years and I currently work as a hostess at a local restaurant.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: I plan on attending James Madison University or Penn State, University Park and majoring in business/ hospitality management. My hope is to one day plan, organize and run large scale events, like conventions for businesses and more.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: Managing school work, extracurricular/ social activities and a part-time job has always been a challenge. But learning to handle it all has helped me become more organized and efficient. More recently, choosing a college has become a challenge because there are so many opinions, options and social media sites that can influence your feelings about the school where you want to spend the next four years.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I hope to be remembered as a friendly, good person who treated others with respect, as well as a person who tried her best in all things.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: I live in Emmaus with my parents, Carolyn and Rick Croy and my sister, Nicole, a sophomore at EHS. I also have an older brother, Tim, who is a sophomore at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. We have a small papillon named Sophie and one very large guinea pig.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: I don't look up to one person specifically, but instead I look up to everyone in my family. I am fortunate enough to have a large extended family living in the area and love spending time with all of them. I have two very loving grandparents, my Nana and Pop-Pop, who set very good examples for me. My father has a very good work ethic and a huge heart; my mother is super caring, loving and always there for me; my sister is my best friend; and my brother is a very creative and exciting person. I believe I look up to all of them in different ways.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: My advice to my peers is the usual, to work hard and try your best in everything you do. However, I believe it is just as important to treat people the way you want to be treated and not to judge others so much. Use your heart as well as your mind when dealing with others and making decisions.
