The Salisbury Township Police Department is pleased to announce the recent graduation of Sgt. Donald Sabo from the School of Police Staff and Command program at Northwestern University.

Sabo successfully completed the 22-week program held in Evanston, Ill. June 23 through Nov. 23, 2014.

This program, which was implemented by the Center for Public Safety in 1983, has graduated over 14,000 students both nationally and internationally. Sabo was a student in SOSC Class #363 which accommodated a total of 20 students.

The School of Police Staff and Command provides upper-level college instruction in a total of 27 core blocks of instruction and additional optional blocks during each session.

The major topics of study include: applied statistics, planning and police development, budgeting and resource allocation.

Each student is academically challenged through written examinations, projects, presentations and quizzes in addition to a staff study paper.

Upon successful completion, students may be awarded a total of six units of undergraduate credit from Northwestern University.

The Center for Public Safety was established at Northwestern University in 1936 with the specific goal of expanding university-based education and training for the law enforcement community.

The Salisbury Township Police Department anticipates a variety of benefits from Sabo's attendance at this program.

Sabo began his career with the Salisbury Township Police Department as a patrol officer April 1, 2001. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in June 2009.

Sabo currently serves the department as a criminal investigation supervisor, the fire inspection program supervisor, the school resource officer program supervisor, the QRS/EMS program supervisor, the department emergency medical instructor and paramedic.

Sabo also serves as the Salisbury Township fire marshal and arson investigator. He also serves Lehigh County as a tactical Haz-Mat specialist.
