Interstate 78 crash leaves truck dangling

Emergency crews from Salisbury Township along with Cetronia EMS were called to Interstate 78 westbound for an accident around 9 a.m. March 6.

Responding units were advised a tractor trailer hit a bridge and was hanging off the side of the bridge at Hamilton Boulevard.

Firefighters requested a heavy duty tow truck to secure the truck from possibly falling on the roadway below. The driver was able to escape the wreckage uninjured and the tank trailer, used to haul syrup, was empty.

Fire police from Eastern Salisbury Fire Department directed traffic around the scene while Western Salisbury firefighters contained a large diesel fuel spill from the truck.

The right lane of Interstate 78 remained closed for about two hours until the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation cleaned up the spill and assessed the bridge for damage.
