Former Falcon pitchers excelling at the next level
Several Salisbury graduates are excelling for their current college teams.
Saint Joseph's freshman pitcher Justin Aungst was named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Rookie of the Week to open his collegiate career. In three appearances for the Hawks, he has pitched 7.2 innings (the most of any relief pitcher) with a 0.00 ERA. Against the 25 batters he's faced, Aungst has eight strikeouts compared to three hits and three walks. He is 1-0 on the season.
Nicolas Ampietro, a pitcher at Moravian College, has picked up where he left off a season ago. After earning a 5-3 record with a 2.68 ERA as a freshman, the sophomore is 1-0 so far in 2015 with a 1.29 ERA and four strikeouts. His seven innings pitched are the most for a Greyhound through two games.
Alex Foulke, a senior on West Chester's track and field team, enters his final season with the Golden Rams. He holds the second-fastest time in program history in the 200-meter dash (22.29 seconds). Foulke is also a member of the 4x200 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay teams with the top times in West Chester history.
Lehigh University sophomore Dan Reichenbach set a personal best in the triple jump (14.65 meters) at the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 20. He also posted a mark of 6.61 meters in the long jump at the Patriot League meet, just .02 meters from his personal best.
After playing baseball for Northampton Community College for two seasons, junior outfielder Colby Kulig is entering his inaugural season with DeSales. In seven games for the Bulldogs, he is batting .267 with five RBIs and two runs scored. He batted .167 with five RBIs for NCC last year.
Tyler Cooperman, a sophomore pitcher for DeSales, has appeared in three games this season so far without allowing a run. In 4.1 innings pitches, he has allowed three hits and struck out three. Also seeing time at third base, he is batting .200 with an RBI and run scored. In 2014, Cooperman went 1-1 on the diamond with a 6.85 ERA and 19 runs allowed.
Freshman jumper Austin Uhl is entering his first season with the West Chester track and field team. He placed second in the long jump, fifth in the high jump and seventh in the triple jump at districts for Salisbury a year ago.
