Editor covered facts and context

To the Editor:

Anyone who has ever tried to write a newspaper article, or attended an event that was covered by the press, can tell you that conveying both fact and context is difficult to achieve in journalism. Those who are familiar with Johanna Billings' work appreciate the skill with which she is able to do just that. Whether it was her coverage of the political scene, her inspiring photographs or her insightful and poignant editorials, she was dedicated to helping to create newspapers which shone the bright light of sunshine on the hard facts while incorporating large doses of personality and charm.

The town of Coplay owes her a debt of gratitude for her coverage of the library referendum issue last year. In my opinion, letting the public know that they were in danger of losing their library was instrumental in keeping this important institution in Coplay and the public embraced the chance to help and have their voices heard.

In the future, The Press will have high standards to uphold in order to continue the tradition of covering news that is relevant and impactful and meet the needs of the community.

Thank you, Johanna, for all you have done for the communities you covered in The Press. We will all miss you! Best wishes to you in all of your future endeavors.
