Camp Cadet taking youth applications

State Police Troop M Camp Cadet is accepting online applications for this year's camp June 14-19, at Camp Fowler, Orefield.

This year marks the 29th anniversary of this free, weeklong, overnight youth program.

Ninety cadets will be selected to have a first-hand opportunity to experience what it takes to become a law enforcement officer.

This camp is designed to bring a better understanding to youth, about the law enforcement profession while living in an atmosphere of an actual state police training academy.

Blocks of instruction and demonstrations will be presented by State Police firearms instructors, Forensic Services Unit, Special Emergency Response Team, PSP and Whitehall Township Police Department K-9s. Patrol Troopers and the Aviation Unit helicopter.

Additional instruction and demonstrations will be conducted by MediEvac, Emmaus K-9 unit, Bethlehem City Police Department Bike Unit, Game Time Field House, and Lehigh County Crime Victims, Lehigh and Northampton coroners, Tri-Clover Fire and Rescue, FBI, U.S. Secret Services and Allentown SWAT.

Camp counselors include law enforcement personnel from Pennsylvania State Police Troop M and local police from Tinicum and Lehigh townships, Slatington Borough and various civilian police personnel.
