Two-vehicle crash
on I-78
State Police Troop M Fogelsville say Alan J. Reuther, 58, of Scranton, was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus east on I-78 in the right lane in Weisenberg Township, when it was hit 1:43 a.m. Feb. 2 by a 2009 Volvo driven by Hajrudin Ahmetovic, 45, of Carlisle.
According to police, Ahmetovic was following the Ford too closely. Reuther lost control of his vehicle, sending it across the left lane before colliding into the concrete median barrier with its left front.
Police say after impact, the car crossed back across the left lane into the right lane where it was struck on the driver's side by the front end of the Volvo.
After the second impact, the car traveled back across the left lane and struck the median barrier for a second time with its right rear, police say.
The car then came to an uncontrolled final rest facing west in the left eastbound lane.
The Volvo came to a final controlled rest on the shoulder of the eastbound lane.
Police say both drivers and Reuther's passenger Catherine Foley, 54, of Dunmore were all wearing seat belts.
According to police, Reuther and Foley were transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
