Students from Emmaus and Salisbury high schools were among those to take top honors in the annual District 11 SkillsUSA Championships held Feb. 4 in the Agri-Plex at the Allentown Fairgrounds.

Students competed in more than 50 skills and leadership categories. First place winners in each category will represent District 11 in the statewide competition in April in Hershey.

Top competitors from Emmaus High School included: James Yons, who earned first place in the Computer Numerical Control milling category; Daria Greb, who earned first place in the commercial baking category; Kenneth Pavlick, who earned first place in the graphic communications category; Bridgette Bolton, who placed second in the medical math category; AnaAbigail Cordero, who placed second in technical computer applications category; Malachi Atkinson, who placed second in the web design category and Brandon Durrick who took third in the technical computer applications category.

Top competitors from Salisbury High School included: Hayley Werkeiser, who placed third in the crime scene investigation category and Kaylyn Lightcap who placed third in the health knowledge bowl category.

The event featured more than 400 students from Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School, Career Institute of Technology, Colonial Academy, Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Monroe Career and Technical Institute and Upper Bucks County Technical School competing in 53 hands-on skill and leadership competitions.
