Parents or guardians are reminded that a written note must be presented to their child's teacher within three days of returning to school.

The suggested method is to write a note promptly on the day of return. Remember to include the date of the absence, child's name, teacher's name, a specific reason for the absence and parent's signature.

Do not email classroom teachers with excuse notes. If no excuse note is received within three days, the missed day will be considered an illegal absence.

When the student reaches three illegal absences, parents or guardians will be required to appear before the Whitehall district magistrate on truancy charges.

Read Across America is a national program that promotes reading and adult involvement in the education of students.

It is celebrated across the nation on March 2. The goal is to motivate children to read.

March is the birthday month of Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr Seuss.

Inspired by the theme book "Oh the Places You'll Go," students and staff are encouraged to wear a shirt or hat of a favorite vacation destination.

There will be a variety of classroom activities. During the week, gym classes will participate in Dr. Seuss-based games. Each student will receive a special Dr. Seuss item.

Students from the high school Key Club, middle school Leo Club and LCTI students will visit classes to read a story and do a craft in the classrooms.

Parents and families are encouraged to join the celebration and plan some evening activity to share with their children.
