LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Meeting March 3 on Rt. 863 bridge

There were empty seats aplenty at the Weisenberg Township supervisors Feb. 9 meeting.

Whether it was the weather or otherwise, it led to a short meeting.

One item of note reported was Weisenberg officials and PennDOT personnel recently met to discuss the fate of the Route 863 bridge over I-78.

PennDOT is anticipating removing the bridge this year and replacing it with a wider, pre-cast structure.

The road will be closed six to eight weeks for construction.

A public information session has been set for 6:30-8 p.m. March 3 at the township building.

PennDOT officials will be on hand with the plans and will answer questions from residents.

In other matters, Todd Weaver and his attorney, Kevin Fogerty, came before the board in an attempt to solve the problem with the storage building at the fire station.

The building is being leased from Arcadia by Weaver for his business, TCW Building Maintenance.

The lot is owned by the township.

As part of the agreement, Weaver was to shoulder the portion of the taxes on the property concerned with the building.

However, he apparently has not done so. There is also an insufficient parking area.

The solution to the problem appears to be a subdivision/land development creating a new lot for the building and additional parking.

Discussion with the township on a course of action is underway.

In other matters, Fire Chief Brian Carl noted there were 25 fire calls so far this year for the Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Company.

The Environmental Advisory Committee requested to have a bird watch area at the township park on Lyon Valley Road.

The area would be located near the pond and development of the project could possibly be an Eagle Scout project.

Carl received a letter from state police itemizing service calls for 2014.

There were no burglaries reported in the township last year. However, there were 23 thefts, 135 accidents and 19 DUI arrests.
