Following Monday's dual meet against Schuylkill Haven that ended Salisbury's regular season, the Falcon wrestlers have one thing left to focus on: the upcoming individual district tournament.

When the District 11 Class AA event gets underway on Friday, the Falcons will send a number of wrestlers to compete for a spot in regionals. While seeding and opponents were not determined by time of press, a total of nine Falcons will take the mat as the weekend approaches.

The Falcon who might have the best opportunity at advancing to regionals is Zach Adams (18-6) at 120 pounds. He was one of a number of Salisbury wrestlers that made it to the second day of last year's tournament.

Head coach Eric Snyder understands that while Adams certainly has the skills and ability at reaching the coveted regionals round, he'll need to polish up certain areas as he embarks on that journey.

"We've been drilling into Zach's head that he is capable of doing something here in the postseason," Snyder said. "We're just trying to correct little things that he needs to improve on that can be the difference if he's losing by a point or winning by a point."

Alex Nicholas (17-8) spent much of the season at 220 pounds for the Falcons, but Snyder has moved the junior up to heavyweight in recent weeks in order to prepare for that weight class at districts.

Since moving up to 285 pounds, Nicholas has been impressive to end the regular season. He went 3-2 and placed third at the Falcons' own tournament on Saturday, February 7. The two losses he did suffer were to the same opponent and were close matches until the finish.

"He's been wrestling really well," Snyder said. "He lost to the same kid twice. The kid that he lost to is from Warwick, a Class AAA school from District 3, that probably has a good shot to go to states in AAA.

"I know he's a lot more confident after last weekend's tournament. Hopefully we can keep it that way."

Shane Simononis (15-10) will suit up at 152 pounds come districts. Like the entire field of Falcon wrestlers entering postseason play, Snyder understands that being consistent in all phases is something Simononis must execute with this level of competition.

"He's probably got a couple of matches there that he should have won that are in the loss column," Snyder said. "We're just trying to get him to wrestle more consistent."

All of the Falcons certainly have the opportunity to grab a spot in regionals, but the trio of Adams, Nicholas and Simononis may be atop that last. Nico Scarcia (9-12) and Antonio Alvarado, along with the aforementioned three, have experienced district competition last season.

"I think it's just a matter of where [the seeds] fall," Snyder said. "Even though someone might be sixth, seventh or eighth, that doesn't mean they are not capable of beating guys that are seeded ahead of them.

"We're pounding into each one of their heads that seeds don't really mean anything, and that they are all capable of getting into the top five and earning that trip to regionals."

Michael Murphy (106), Peter Dubois (126), Dillon Trenge (182), Dante Martinez (195) and Bailey Marks (220) round out the wrestlers competing at districts.

The tournament opens on Friday evening with pigtail and preliminary-round matches beginning at 4 p.m. The quarterfinals begin at 6 p.m. and the first consolation round starts two hours later. Competition then continues on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

"Win or lose, it will be good for them to go there and see what good wrestling is," Snyder said, "and see how other guys warm up, how they prepare, and all of that stuff."
