Strengthening Families is an evidence-based drug and alcohol prevention program that teaches youth skills to resist peer pressure, manage stress and set goals for the future. Parents learn how to balance love and limits for their soon-to-be teenagers. Early prevention is strongly correlated with a reduced likelihood of addiction later in life.
Whitehall is one of eight school districts in the Lehigh Valley offering this free program this school year. Strengthening Families is offered through a partnership between Penn State Extension in Lehigh County and Valley Youth House, and is funded by Lehigh County Drug and Alcohol Services.
Seven weekly sessions run Tuesdays, Feb. 25 through April 8, in the middle school cafeteria. The sessions begin at 5:30 p.m. with a free family dinner. The program takes place from 6 to 8 p.m.
Free child care for younger family members will be available.
Help your child earn schoolwide positive behavior program reward coupons by attending weekly sessions.
For more information or to register, call the middle school at 610-439-1439 and ask for your child's guidance counselor or an administrator.
