Nestlé donates to rec board

Don Link was elected member-at-large and , for 2015, president of the Northwestern Recreation Commission during reorganization Jan. 28.

LeRoy Sorensen was elected vice president and Ron Morrison was named secretary.

Christie Steigerwalt, an employee of the Northwestern Lehigh School District, will be treasurer.

Member Justin Smith, Lynn Township representatrive, reported a $5,000 grant was received Jan. 16 from Eric Andreus of Nestlé Waters North America.

The company wants to know what the money will be used for and expects it to be spent in the near future.

New bleachers and deck cages, purchased with prior donations, have signs attached crediting Nestlé.

Kathy Hermany has begun work on the annual August Night in the Country celebration.

After discussion, the decision was made to stay with Steel Creek Band for two reasons. Most bands will only play for three hours and Night needs four hours and it is willing to reserve a rain date. The cost is $1,100.

XYZ Pyro Tech asked about providing the fireworks. A presentation may be made in February.

The commission would like to get comparable lists of what would be provided both from XYZ and Celebration, the company that has been providing them.

Mike Peters, in conjunction with Celebration, began providing the fireworks when "Night" was new.

When it became solely a Celebration show it became more choreographed, said Sorensen. The company has provided the fireworks ever since.

Member Steve Bachman, representing Heidelberg Township, said it would be good to get a spec sheet for what is provided for $15,500, admitting it is difficult to understand because of lack of knowledge by rec commission members.

Morrison said he likes continuity but would like to see what each has.

Each company would also be asked about its rules for a rain date.
