UMYA begins boys lacrosse program
The Upper Milford Youth Association is excited about its new boys lacrosse program, starting this spring. Ryan Hawkins, director of the new program, has been updating participants and their parents on the upcoming season.
UMYA will be fielding two boys teams one at the U9 level and one at the U11 level. The league has been split into two divisions defined by location in the Lehigh Valley.
The U9 season is considered noncompetitive and standings are not tracked.
The U11 program has been placed under a developing program designation, enabling UMYA to field a B-level team and not be forced into the A-level bracket. Because the sport is new to many people, the program is making some used equipment available on loan to players.
Five indoor practices have been booked for February and March. The dates and times are: 8 to 9 p.m. Feb. 5 - Gametime Fieldhouse in Breinigsville; 8 to 9 p.m. Feb. 19 - Gametime Fieldhouse; 4 to 5 p.m. March 1 - Elite Sports Academy, Allentown; 4 to 5 p.m. March 8 - Elite Sports Academy; 4 to 5 p.m. March 22 - Elite Sports Academy.
Depending on the weather, they will make every attempt to be outdoors on the fields as early as the first or second week of March. The weekly practice schedule will likely include 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays for the U11 program and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for the U9 boys. Typical game dates are Saturday mornings, but there is potential for two to three Sunday afternoon games as well as one to two scheduled games during the week.
