Student of the Week Annie Tsai

Q: What grade are you in?

A: I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?

A: My favorite subject is a combination of chemistry and biology because I enjoy doing labs/ research, collaborating with others and applying scientific knowledge to the world.

Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A: I was selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences during the summer after my junior year. I earned first place in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science regional and state competition as well as second place in the Pennsylvania National History Day regional competition. I am a member of National Honor Society, Latin Foreign Language Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society at Emmaus High School. I was also selected to participate in Pennsylvania Music Educators Association district and regional orchestras in the past two years. In addition to earning the Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor Award, I have received the Academic Excellence Award and the Principal's Honor Roll all throughout high school.

Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A: I am currently the president of Emmaus High School's Habitat for Humanity. Since my freshman year, I have been a member of Emmaus High School's Sinfonia and Chamber orchestras. I am also involved in math league, debate team and Latin club.

Q: What is your next goal after high school?

A: After high school, I plan to major in biochemistry and eventually earn M.D./Ph.D. degrees to pursue a medical career.

Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A: My biggest challenge has been finding my passions.

Q: What do you want to be remembered for?

A: I want to be remembered for my hard-working attitude, versatility and friendly personality that brightens people's day.

Q: Who is in your family?

A: My family includes my mom, Amy, my dad, Alan, and my older brother, Andrew.

Q: Do you have someone you look up to?

A: I look up to my parents for their support and inspiration.

Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?

A: Always be confident in yourself, work hard and keep moving forward.
