Chestnut Hill Road Fire

Western Salisbury and Emmaus firefighters quickly knocked down a potentially dangerous fire in a basement garage storage area before the fire could spread to the upstairs of a two-story dwelling at 95 Chestnut Hill Road early Jan. 29.

The home is owned by Tina Feldi.

Western Salisbury Fire Department Chief Joshua Wells arrived first on the scene to investigate a report to the Lehigh County 911 Center of "smoke in the dwelling."

As Wells was enroute to the scene, he called for a "full dwelling fire," including water tanker trucks from additional area fire stations and a rapid response firefighter rescue team. Upon arrival Wells saw smoke coming from the front door and basement garage area and later, after assessing the situation recalled the special team and an engine from Upper Saucon Township Fire Department.

Western Salisbury, Emmaus, Eastern Salisbury, Vera Cruz, Upper Saucon fire departments and Emmaus Ambulance Corps responded.

Western Salisbury and Emmaus firefighters forced entry to the garage area and put out the active fire in a matter of minutes.

They were actively aided by Salisbury Police patrol officers Charles Whitehead and Michael Palansky. A water tanker from Citizen's Fire Co, Vera Cruz, replenished water supplies. Firefighters ventilated smoke from upper floors of the dwelling.

Emmaus Ambulance personnel aided at the scene, examining a resident of the home for possible smoke inhalation and an Emmaus firefighter who suffered abrasions after falling on ice.
