Goodwill Fire Company, Germansville, to celebrate 100th anniversary on July 11

Goodwill Fire Company, Germansville, Chief Jay Scheffler announced at the Heidelberg supervisors' Jan. 15 meeting, the company will be celebrating its 100th anniversary beginning July 11.

There will be a parade from 2-3:30 p.m. along Northwest Road to Hunters Hill and Central roads, then to Memorial Road.

The ceremony begins at 4 p.m. with the opening of the cornerstone at the fire station.

There will be plenty of good food and vendors and the Rehrig Brothers Band will entertain from 6:30-9 p.m.

For the grand finale, there will be a fabulous fireworks display starting at 9:30 p.m.

In addition, he told the board two more firefighters earned first class certification and 41 emergency calls were answered by the volunteers.

Supervisor Dave Fink, in his role representing the public works department, said the township is loaded with salt but he still wants an easy winter.

Township Administrator Janice Meyers reported to the board she attended a tax collectors meeting and saw a presentation by a company that would allow a 30-60 day extension before a penalty kicks in on delinquent accounts. It was tabled.

Meyers is working with Roadmaster Kevin Huber to get a Green Light Go grant to upgrade pavement markings and obtain a back-up battery for the light at Northwest Road.

According to a Penn-DOT study, the speed limit on Northwest Road will not be reduced.

Supervisor Steve Bachman said the township will continue to push for a crosswalk from the school to the recreation fields.

He will ask the recreation board to join the effort.

In other matters, resident Harry Kubat asked the board to give him a waiver for a second driveway. His main drive comes in seven feet below the house. He wants one that would come in level with the rear entrance for his mother.

Fink made a motion to grant the waiver, if it meets permitting requirements.

Residents were assured there would be no tax increase in 2015 to pay for ambulance service.
