Students in the Shoemaker Elementary Art Club are celebrating a decade of decorating the windows at the Carmike 16 Saucon Valley for movie fans.
Jeffrey Shreck, the art teacher at Shoemaker Elementary School, is the director of the art club. Students audition to join the club.
The relationship began when Shreck contacted the Carmike 16 Saucon Valley, formerly the Rave, and asked if anyone painted the windows at the theater. Ten years later the Shoemaker Art Club continues to enjoy painting the window displays for all moviegoers to enjoy.
Shreck explained the process behind the displays.
First, in the classroom, the students watch the trailer to the movie they decide to feature.
Next, the students receive a mini window replica on paper and it is then their ideas and designs begin to take shape.
Once the ideas are drawn, the students decide what they feel will work best. Shreck goes to the theater and lightly sketches the students ideas onto the glass. The students then outline and paint their designs. The students take shifts and finish the entire display in four hours.
The art club typically participates in four to six displays per year.
This is the 22nd window display by the art club featured at the theater.
