Fatal accident
A 64-year-old woman was killed Jan. 16 when the car she was driving was struck by a train in Macungie Borough.
Carol J. Midei, of the 100 block of Riding Circle, Macungie, was pronounced dead 6:52 p.m. by Andrew Kehm, chief deputy coroner, according to a press release from the coroner's office.
Midei died of multiple blunt force injuries. The manner of death was ruled an accident.
According to authorities, Midei was the operator of the vehicle and was the only person in the car.
The crash occurred about 6:37 p.m. at the railroad crossing at Main Street. Midei allegedly made a left turn onto the railroad tracks and her car became stuck on the railroad tracks.
Investigating agencies included the Lehigh County Coroner's office and the Macungie and Norfolk Southern police departments. Norfolk Southern operates freight trains in 22 states and Washington, D.C., according to the corporation website.
The accident investigation is complete, according to Macungie Police.
Midei was a board certified heart failure nurse practitioner. Her survivors include her husband and three children.
