To teach 102 registered Girl Scouts ranging in age from kindergarten (Daisies) to 12th grade, how to promote and safely sell their cookies, the Tri Creek Service Unit of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania held a rally at Shoemaker Elementary School Jan. 9.
Girl Scout Cookie season starts Jan. 15 and continues through March 8.
Before taking the cookies on the road, the girls are taught five skills they must practice when selling cookies.
There were six stations for the Scouts to learn their skills expected to last a lifetime, according to Tracy Hammerback a 10-year veteran Girl Scout who organized the rally.
Scouts will use the skills they learn here when they are adults, Hammerback said. The money they earn will go back into the community. Each troop will help support charities in the area like the humane society or a food bank or other charity and they will put boxes together for sick children.
"I love working with the girls," Hammerback said.
After 12th grade, girls can become Ambassadors and Troop Leaders, but they do not get paid. Volunteers run it all. A phone app is available to find the nearest Girl Scout troop in your area.
