Eyer Middle School once again held the annual fundraiser, the Rock-a-thon, where teams of students rock in rocking chairs 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 to 7 a.m. Jan. 17.
When not rocking, students had a plethora of activities available such as a human foosball game, dodgeball, yoga, arts and crafts, a self-defense seminar, dancing to DJ Freddie Frederick Jr., full circle training boot camp, cooking, games, activities and more.
Before the night got under way, the students and staff gathered in the auditorium for announcements and instructions.
This year, the money students raised was designated for the Justin Jennings Foundation, which funds a home in Bethany Beach, Del., where families with a terminally ill child can go and enjoy the sun and surf as well as their time together. Money raised from the Rock-a-thon helps pay the taxes, mortgage and maintenance on the home.
This year, the students raised $20,346.75. More information on the foundation can be found at www.justinjennings.org.
Student Makenzie Christman was recognized for raising over $1,700.
Beth Witte was recognized for her many years of leading the Eyer Rock-a-thon and was given a quilt with various T-shirts from past Rock-a-thon events. This was her last Rock-a-thon for the school.
A total of 32 teams including 270 students participated. In addition, 50 faculty members and 70 parents helped the kids get through the evening.
