Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Company to apply for games of chance license

Weisenberg Township's meeting menu was short this month.

One new ordinance was up for adoption, that being the authorization to have the township participate in the PSATS insurance trust for the upcoming year.

Renewal licenses were granted to Walbert Contracting at 10176 Schoolhouse Road and Peters Automotive Services, 3080 Golden Key Road to operate junkyards for the upcoming year.

Trooper John Nederostek of the Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Fogelsville was in the audience.

He has been with the state police for 23 years; 18 at Fogelsville.

A township resident, he offered his services to the board in case some questions arise relating to the state police.

He will try to attend as many township meetings as possible to offer his input, if needed.

Township Administrator Brian Carl, in his role as fire chief, told the board the fire company will apply for a license to have games of chance.

This could include raffles, punch boards, pull tabs or other similar games.

The fire company is thinking of having only raffles.

The board was in favor of this and gave Carl permission to have the fire company apply.

In other fire company news, there is a hoagie sale underway. Orders must be in by Jan. 27.

Anyone interested should contact a fire company member or place an order at the township building.

Carl reported the fire company had 218 calls last year. Twenty-seven of these were for structure fires, 52 were fire alarms, 16 were vehicle fires, 11 for brush or rubbish fires, 26 EMS assists, 23 vehicle accidents without rescue, eight vehicle accidents with rescue, one other rescue, 16 hazardous conditions, materials, spill calls and 38 miscellaneous calls.

So far this year, the fire company has had 10 calls.

Roadmaster Tony Werley reported the road crew was busy doing maintenance work and cutting brush along township roads.

Engineer Stewart told the board he received a letter concerning a meeting on the change of the Woodbridge Golf Course to a chicken farm.

A building would be located in Weisenberg Township with access from Maxatawny Township.

Administrator Carl will attend the meeting.

Township Treasurer Jeff Strauss told the board all accounts were set up with New Tripoli Bank and supervisors adopted a resolution to this effect.

Supervisor Linda Gorgas suggested a township credit card be used for certain purchases.

Supervisor Bob Milot was not in agreement with this proposal. He feared there could be misuse of the card. After discussion, the board agreed to apply for a card through New Tripoli Bank with a set credit limit on the card.

An upgraded alarm system will be installed at the fire station, Carl reported. Also, changes must be made to the building to accommodate the Cetronia Ambulance Corps vehicle and personnel. These changes would cost about $4,000.
