Students of month honored

Dr. Rodger Berg, chairman of the Northampton Exchange Club's Service to Youth program, said the four Northampton Area High School students recently selected as the monthly award recipients have done well handling the challenges they face in and out of the classroom.

A ceremony was held Dec. 3 at the Northampton Memorial Community Center honoring the November and December Girl and Boy of the Month. The students are Grace Cochrane and Boris Kobilja for November and Amber Saylor and Jared Fantasia for December

The students were presented lamp of knowledge plaques.

Berg said in order to achieve, one must give his or her best and maintain a positive outlook.

"You must have an attitude, a correct attitude," Berg said. "Focus on what you can do and be positive what you can do. If you do what you can do, you got to be confident in your ability. Confidence is a huge factor."

· Grace Cochrane, November Girl of the Month, is a member of National Honor Society; Spanish Club, the swim team, Future Business Leaders of America and Distributive Education Clubs of America. She took part in the Reading Challenge, is a peer tutor, and member of the Math Club and Photography Club. She is a dean's scholar and high school scholar.

· Boris Kobilja, November Boy of the Month, is president of the National Honor Society, president of the Math Club, vice president of the Chess Club and the captain of the Scholastic Scrimmage team. He is a member of the orchestra and Debate Team.

· Amber Saylor, December Girl of the Month, is a member of National Honor Society and the basketball team. She is captain of the softball team and captain of the field hockey team. She is a member of Spanish Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions and is an EPC Student Athlete.

· Jared Fantasia, December Boy of the Month, is a member of National Honor Society, a soccer scholar athlete, vice president of the Library Club, president of the Spanish Club and a member of the Lafayette First Class Program.
