Assistant football coach resigns
The resignation of Joseph Sinkovich, as Konkrete Kids' varsity boys assistant football coach, effective Dec. 8, 2014, was accepted by a unanimous 9-0 vote at the Dec. 15 Northampton Area School Board meeting.
The Konkrete Kids varsity boys football team had an overall 2014 season record of 3 wins and 9 losses, had no wins and 8 losses in league play and finished last of nine teams in the Eastern Pennsylvania South Division of inaugural year of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
In league varsity boys play, Easton was first at 8-0, followed by Parkland, 6-2; Freedom, 6-2; Whitehall, 6-2; Liberty, 4-4; Emmaus, 3-5; Nazareth, 2-7, and Allentown Central Catholic, 1-7.
The following resignations for retirement were approved by the school board, on recommendation of the NASD administration, effective June 2, or the last teacher day of the 2014-15 school year:
· Mary Elizabeth Sisko, English teacher;
· JoAnn Marzen, mathematics teacher; and
· Kerry Haydt, custodian, effective June 30.
Also approved 9-0:
· Reassignment of Carrie Beleno to sixth-grade mathematics teacher, effective on or about Jan. 16 for the second semester of the 2014-15 school year;
· Voluntary transfer of Rita Hanzl from cafeteria monitor at Northampton Area High School to cafeteria monitor at Siegfried Elementary School, effective on or about Dec. 16, 2014;
· Cassandra Herr, an unpaid FMLA childrearing leave, with benefits, Jan. 5 to Feb. 13;
· LeRoy Hummel, an unpaid FMLA leave of absence, with benefits, for medical reasons beginning Dec. 2 to 15, 2014; a paid FMLA leave of absence, with benefits, Dec. 16, 2014 to Jan. 9, an unpaid FMLA leave, with benefits, Jan. 12 to 26, and an unpaid leave, with benefits, Jan. 27, to June 16;
· Jennifer Zeiner, added to district volunteer master listing, Borough Elementary Schools, for the 2014-15 school year:
The following hirings were approved by the school board, on recommendation of the NASD administration by a 9-0 vote:
· Patricia Gaetaniello, information systems doordinator, effective on or about Jan. 16, at an annual salary of $65,000, pro-rated with benefits;
· Michael Bankes, supervisor of network and audio visual systems, effective on or about Feb. 6 at an annual pro-rated salary of $68,387.56, with benefits;
· Katherine Gotwols, long-term substitute Spanish teacher at Northampton Area High School, effective on or about Jan. 14 through the remainder of the 2014-15 school year at a salary of $49,198, pro-rated, without benefits;
· Kelsey Morrison, short-term substitute special education teacher at Northampton Area Middle School, effective on or about March 4 through the remainder of the 2014-15 school year at a salary of $125 per day, without benefits;
· MaryJo Saylor, cafeteria monitor at Northampton Area High School, effective Dec. 16, 2014, at a salary of $11.02 per hour, without benefits;
· Tanya Lamparter, a 10-month attendance secretary at Northampton Area High School, effective Dec. 16, 2014, at salary of $15.69 per hour.
The board also voted 9-0 to approve:
· Adoption of the following policies, effective Dec. 16, 2014: Educational Goals, Nondiscrimination in School and Classroom Practices, Nondiscrimination in Employment and Contract Practices, Hazing, Gifts, Grants, Donations and Scholarships;
· Textbook adoptions for the 2014-15 school year for a total cost of $167,989.10 and Keystones To Opportunity grant funding of $34,209.85. Textbook costs are included in the board-approved curriculum budget;
· Fund balance amounts and classifications: $490,144, inventory; $187,465, prepaid expenses as nonspendable fund balance reserves; $1,847,678, future Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System rate increases; $1,035,394, new Northampton Area Middle School, $1,550,000, Facility Capital Improvements, and $64,595 for future obligations; and
· Accept, with appreciation, the donation of school supplies from the Marine Corps League at an approximate value of $1,500.
