Stockings for Soldiers collects over two tons of donations for troops

The fifth annual Stocking for Soldiers collection effort brought in more than 5,600 pounds of donations.

According to Cindy Mellinger, marketing/community relations coordinator for Blue Ridge Communications, the collection topped 5,609 pounds and included food, hygiene products and other requested items and more than 6,000 cards.

Donations also brought in $6,000 for shipping.

Items were collected at Blue Ridge Communications and Pencor offices, including The Press, and donations were made by businesses, churches, schools and individuals.

Donations were sent to troops stationed overseas who were unable to come home for the holidays.

On behalf of The Press, thank you to our readers for your contributions to this worthy cause.
