Lehigh Valley Beekeepers Association is offering a four-session "Introduction to Beekeeping" class 7-9:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 4, 18 and March 4 and 18 at Lehigh Carbon Community College, 4525 Education Park Drive, Schnecksville.
Registration fee includes a reference book, course materials, refreshments and planned field trips to the club's apiaries for hands-on experience.
Youth under the age of 16 years, accompanied by a registered adult, are invited to attend at a reduced fee. Class size is limited.
If you are considering becoming a beekeeper, stop by the Lehigh County Ag Center, next to Dorney Park, South Whitehall, 1-3 p.m. Jan. 17 to talk with experienced beekeepers. Adults who register and pay at this informational meeting will receive a $5 discount off the registration fee.
Classes will cover basic bee biology; necessary equipment; setting up the hive and adding the bees; a typical year in the life of a beekeeper; honey bee pests and treatment options, assembling hives and components, hive ventilation, feeding and honey extraction.
