Margene I. Scharl, 94, formerly of Whitehall, died Dec. 18, 2014, in ManorCare Health Services, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Joseph Scharl.

Born May 26, 1920, in Emerald, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Hausman) Kistler.

She was a sewing machine operator for the former D&D Shirt Company, Northampton, for 35 years before retiring in 1985.

She was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whitehall, the Zephyr Apartment Association and the former Upper Lehigh Lioness Club.

Her survivors include daughters Joanne M. wife of Glenn R. George of Neffs, Diane L. wife of William T. Hughes of Christiansburg, Va.; sisters Marie Heller of Topton, Edna Holderman of Ormrod, Carolyn wife of John Bertsch of Orlando, Fla.; grandsons Earl, Jacob and Ian; and great-grandson, Anthony.
