Throughout the months of December and January, Lower Macungie Library will feature the artwork of Judy Leichssenring.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health will provide free blood pressure screening in the library. Call 610-821-6770 to schedule an appointment.

The library will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 for the Christmas holiday and will close 2 p.m. Dec. 31.

There will be a Bedtime Booktime for children ages two to eight years old 7:25 to 8 p.m. Jan. 5, 2015. Come in your pajamas to hear some bedtime stories.

Starting Jan. 5, 2015, the library will accept donations for the spring 2015 book sale. Donations should be brought to the donations counter to the left of the information desk. Acceptable donations include gently used books, DVDs, music CDs and audiobooks on CD.

The library will present a Get in the Game event 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 24, 2015. All ages are welcome to come play board games. Please register in advance.

Preschool storytimes are ongoing. School age programs are held Monday evenings. Check the library for the schedule.

Adult computer classes including Microsoft Word, Excel, Intro to the Web and social networking are offered monthly. The schedule is available at the library.

Class size is limited and registration is required for the above events.

The next meeting of the Friends of the Lower Macungie Library will be held 10 a.m. Jan. 17, 2015, in the library. Business items include voting on a slate of officers and sign-ups for the Cherries and Chocolate event in February 2015.

Lower Macungie Township will hold a Miller-Keystone Blood Drive 4 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27, 2015 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. To schedule an appointment time, call 610-966-6924.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon Dec. 16 and Jan. 6, 2015, at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games. Games will be followed by special entertainment at the Dec. 16 meeting.

The township is offering discounted ski tickets for Bear Creek, Big Boulder/Jack Frost, Blue Mountain and Camelback. Order forms are available at the community center.

Discounted Philadelphia Zoo tickets are available through Dec. 31.

The Lower Macungie Township Community Center offers a number of activities including Walkercise, yoga, pilates, Tai Chi and Power House Fitness. Winter classes include Kindermusik, kids' art classes, adult drawing and watercolor classes, Latin Dance, Feng Shui, Minecraft, Mommy/Daddy and Me Soccer, Calling All Superheroes and Toddlers and Tutus.

An SAT/ACT practice test will be offered 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 24, 2015. The registration deadline is Jan. 19, 2015.

A safe sitter program will be offered 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 10, 2015.

Family Open Gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.

Yard waste site winter hours will be noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The site will be closed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Be prepared to show your photo I.D. as proof of residency.

There is a dog named Dug in the movie "Up" who is easily distracted. His conversations with the boy Russell are punctuated with "SQUIRREL" as he wildly looks around. One day, my husband was telling me a story as he was walking to the kitchen. All of a sudden, he interrupted himself as he shouted "BAGEL" at the sight of a bagel laying on the counter. We now joke he has the attention span of Dug the dog!
