WCSB reorganizes for 2015

The Whitehall-Coplay School Board elected Tina Koren as its president at its reorganization meeting Dec. 2.

Treasurer Arthur Taschler Jr. nominated Koren for president and board member Josef Fragnito nominated Robert Kolb.

Koren was awarded the role in a 5-3 vote with board members Patty Gaugler, Wayne Grim, herself, Taschler and Joyce Wheeler voting in support. Board members Owen Eberhart Jr., Fragnito and Kolb voted for Kolb.

Board member Eileen Abruzzi was absent.

Taschler then nominated Kolb for the office of vice president.

After the reorganization meeting, the board held a special school board meeting.

During the special meeting, the board reappointed John Corby to serve as superintendent.

The agreement has Corby serving Sept. 1, 2015 to Aug. 31, 2018.

Eberhart was the only board member who voted in opposition.

When asked by The Press the reason for his vote, Eberhart said he had "no comment."

At the end of the meeting, Corby spoke about an accident involving a school bus.

He said the accident occurred near Auto Zone.

Corby, Whitehall High School Principal Christopher Schiffert and Business Manager Michael Malay were on the scene along with other district employees, according to Corby.

"I personally witnessed the job the emergency personnel did. They did a heck of a job," Corby said.

Corby said no injuries were reported.
