NWL concert band serenades school directors

The Dec. 3 meeting of the Northwestern Lehigh School Board began with a walk to the renovated music room where the high school concert band was preparing for its holiday show, to be presented 7 p.m. Dec. 17 in the middle school auditorium.

The talented musicians performed three songs for the school board.

Director Jim Lykins said the second song, "O Little Town of Bethlehem," was the Sondheim version with a lot of extra chords making the song special.

Superintendent Dr. Mary Anne Wright said she was amazed at the talent and dedication of the performers.

Wright said the presentatiob opened the board meeting on a positive note.

Board member Darryl Schafer asked how many band members there were.

He was told there are now 56, a big jump from previous years.

"We do believe in supporting music," Schafer said.

"We appreciate your support and backing," Lykins told the board.

The band officers were then introduced and the visitors returned to the boardroom.

Elementary Music Director Shawn Fies assists with the band.
