The Emmaus wrestling team fell in the opening round of the District 11 tournament to defending champion Nazareth, but with a large group back with a lot of post season experience, the Green Hornets will look to improve on their 2013-14 season and advance further as a team and individually.
Sophomores Tyler Corpora, Justis Walton, Jacob Alcaro, Jared Skibinski, and Colin Molitorisz, juniors Lucas Schaf and Dan Oberle, and seniors Cole Franklin, Austin Flaugh, and Tom Alcaro all return after qualifying for districts a year ago,
Tom Alcaro (220 pounds), and Schaf (120 pounds) each took the bronze medal in their respective weight classes, and Corpora (106 pounds) reached the final four to give the Green Hornets some wrestlers with success to build on.
Others back to contribute include seniors Kris Bowden, Tyler Harris, Michael Horn, James Kelly, Jonathan Reichley, and Andrew Vargas, junior Matt Hamati, sophomores Daniel Brooks, Reed Custer, Luke Franco, Patrick Zerpa, Chase Pavelko, Josh Piestrepo, and Del Viering. Freshman Gabriel Ayala-Schray joins the program in his first year.
With a mixture of youth (12 sophomores) and leadership (9 seniors) this Green Hornets team can build on last year while also leaning on experience to push them through.
The Hornets finished in eighth place in the District 11 Class AAA team rankings with 75.5 last season.
