ALBURTIS COLUMN

Holiday decorations, Santa greeting us everywhere, music, the hustle of shoppers rushing about tell us Christmas will soon be here.

Some decorations are rather modern. Some date back to ancient times. Mistletoe was a sign of peace rather than romance in Roman times.

Centuries later in England, it was hung over doorways. Anyone entering was greeted with a handshake or a kiss.

You are invited to come to the Lock Ridge Historical Society, Church and Franklin streets 7 p.m. Dec. 14 for an old-fashioned Christmas show. Donations will be collected with proceeds going to fund food baskets for Alburtis families.

There is no Camp Fire Girls hoagie sale in January.

The borough office will be closed Dec. 25 and 26 and Jan. 1, 2015.

The Alburtis Senior Citizens will meet noon Dec. 17 at The Church of the Good Shepherd UCC, Penn Avenue and Quarry Road.
