Student of the Week
QWhat grade are you in?
A I am currently in the 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q What is your favorite subject? Why?
AMy favorite subject would have to be either biology or anatomy. I love learning about cells and the body. I think the human body is so complex, yet so interesting. I am really fascinated by it.
QHave you received any special awards or recognition?
A I have been on the honor roll throughout my high school career. I am also a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, National Tri-M Music Honor Society, the Principal's Advisory Board, Student Ambassadors, and the Student Athlete Character Council.
QAre you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A I play field hockey with my competitive club team, WC Eagles, in Pottstown. We have lots of national tournaments we compete in all year-round. We have won various national titles and I have just been appointed to the 2015 Futures Elite Academy Team. I also enjoy theater, singing in the EHS Chorale and playing the piano.
Q What is your next goal after high school?
A After Emmaus, I will be attending Lehigh University to major in neuroscience on a pre-med track. Also, I will be playing Division 1 field hockey for the Lehigh University field hockey team. After college, I would love to go to medical school and study to become an orthopedic surgeon or a pediatric surgeon.
QWhat would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A My biggest challenge thus far has been dealing with diversity and obstacles along the way. I had an ACL reconstruction at the Rothman Institute my sophomore year. The recovery period held me back from playing field hockey for about eight months. I had to rebuild my strength and try to get back to my normal playing level. Fortunately, with the help of a team of physicians and physical therapists, I was able to fully recover and come back stronger than before.
QWhat do you want to be remembered for?
A I would love to be remembered for being a dedicated and hard-working person. I'd also like to be remembered for always having a smile on my face and being an optimistic person.
QWho is in your family?
A My family includes my father, Joe, my mother, Franny, my sister, Cristina and my awesome puppies, Cocoa and Dozer.
Q Do you have someone you look up to?
AI really look up to my mom and dad. They have shown me how to be a good person and have taught me many life lessons and morals. I really strive to grow up and be just like them someday. I also sincerely admire my teachers I've had the honor of having throughout my school career. I also really look up to the physicians and professionals I've been able to work with throughout high school, especially my orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Robert Frederick.
Q Do you have any advice for your peers?
A The advice I would give to my peers would be to enjoy every moment of high school. Even though at times it can be crazy, it goes by in the blink of an eye. Looking back, I realize just how much fun I've had and how many memories I have created. Always remember to stay positive and set goals that almost seem unattainable. You can do anything that you set your mind to.
