Boy Scout Troop #146 and Cub Scout Pack #146 gathered Nov. 9 for an annual flag retirement ceremony.
During the ceremony, Scouts distribute United States flags that have been meticulously separated into their base parts, the stripes and the stars. Once the flags are separated, they are no longer the U.S. flag; however, the parts of the flag are still awarded respect.
The ceremony explains the meaning behind each part of the flag and allows the flags to be retired.
The flags are disposed of appropriately under the supervision of the Boy Scout Troop.
The Eastern Salisbury Fire Department also was on standby to assist with fire safety for the ceremony.
