The Nov. 10 curriculum and technology committee meeting was held at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute.

Teachers Jen Brinson and Carla Pacitti, along with Salisbury High School Principal Heather Morningstar and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Randy Ziegenfuss presented to the board rolling electives for the high school in both social studies and English.

Brinson said after months of meetings and surveys completed by students, six proposed electives were being presented to the committee for review and comments before a curriculum would be developed.

Proposed for 2015-2016 would be Ancient and Classical Empires and Rebels, Robbers and Rogues to be coupled with current offerings of economics and psychology.

Offerings proposed for 2016-2017 would be Street Law and Sociology coupled with government and tolerance and diversity. The electives would be offered every other year.

Board member Audrey Frick said she had concerns about the Rebels, Robbers and Rogues offering. "We need to study role models and model people with real values."

The board gave the teachers authorization to begin to develop course content which will be reviewed by the board multiple times before being adopted.

The proposed English electives for 2015-2016 would be Creative Writing and Classical Mythology coupled with Public Speaking.

Proposed for 2016-2017 would be Fiction and Film to be coupled with theater.

Ziegenfuss provided a brief overview of the district testing summary and will go into more detail at the Dec. 16 curriculum meeting at the high school.

Morningstar provided a high school class size analysis per course offered.

Salisbury Middle School Principal Bob Cassidy presented the Chapter 339 Counseling Plan for the district which was re- quired under the Pennsylvania School Code and under Chapter 12 - services provided to students. Cassidy said an advisory council created the plan. All material is available online.

The survey asks questions about the students' interests, plans after graduation and outdoor activities they enjoy. Morningstar said students can opt out of the survey.

School board director Robert Fischer asked if the district could use any of the information to determine possible course interests which Morningstar will find out.

Ziegenfuss provided a TL2020 update and said the website has new success stories featured. He said a new survey will be administered soon.
