SALISBURY TOWNSHIP RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Recreation Director Genny Baillie reported the agreement between Salisbury Township School District and the township is currently being reviewed by the two attorneys for the use of the tennis courts at Lindberg Park.

Committee member Frank McCullough noticed there is a double bathroom by the pavilion at Lindberg Park which the township will investigate.

Township Manager Randy Soriano and Urban Research and Devlopment Corporation representative Joanne Conley provided an update on the Lindberg Park project.

Soriano had good news with the report of several grants being received.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources approved a Phase II grant which will be matched by the township and the Lehigh Valley Health Network. Also approved was a grant for the master site plan for Laubach Park.

A grant was also re- ceived for the transportation alternative plan for bike lanes to connect schools to Lindberg Park. The bike lane will be completed in 2015 and Soriano said a meeting to begin the process will be held in December.

Soriano also reported Chief of Police Allen Stiles had a traffic study completed on Lindberg Avenue and 24th Street to Cedar Crest Boulevard. Soriano said the chief is expected to suggest moving the speed limit from 35 mph to 25 mph. The board will need to revise the existing code and update the ordinance. The recreation committee suggested a crosswalk by Lindberg Park.

In old business, Soriano said the backstop and fencing at Lindberg Park is included in the 2015 budget.

The committee also asked about the aerating and seeding of the upper field at Laubach Park. Since this is a long-term project, Baillie asked if something could be done in the interim. Soriano will investigate.

A community event similar to the 250th celebration held in 2003 was discussed. It was decided a committee should be formed to hold a community day event in 2016.

The next meeting is scheduled 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19, 2015, in the municipal building.
